Please reach me at nashi@barenecessitylaser.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question. I'd be more than happy to help!
The laser is attracted to the melanin (pigment) in the hair. This creates a heat reaction which damages the follicle, which prevents hair growth.
For the hair to be permanently destroyed, it must be in the 'anagen' (growth) phase. Our body hair grows in cycles, and all hair will be in one of the three stages - anagen, telogen or catagen. This is why laser hair removal needs multiple sessions; not all of your hair will be in the growth phase at any one time.
Some people start to see results after their first visit. It's all down to how many of your hairs are in the anagen phase at any session.
From six sessions onwards, we usually start to see really noticeable hair reduction, as this is when we should have been able to catch lots of anagen- phase hair. Some people may even be 'hairless' at this point! Most people will require between 6-12 sessions. If you suffer from hormonal imbalances, you may need more.
Yes. Once we have damaged the follicle, the hair will not return. However, some people may experience new hair growth as a result of hormonal changes or medication. This is why we call laser hair removal 'permanent hair reduction' rather than permanent hair removal.
Once they have achieved their hair removal goal, most people return once or twice a year just to top up and target any new hairs which have grown in.
You will feel a sensation which some say is like being flicked with a warm rubber band. Most people find the sensation of laser much more bearable and comfortable than waxing.
The laser has a crystal freeze head which has been specially designed to reduce any discomfort. Most people tolerate the sensation really well and even find the warmth relaxing!
I think 'Is that it?!' is one of the most common phrases I hear used to describe the sensation.
For best results, we ask that you shave as closely as you can before your appointment, which helps ensure that all the energy is focused into your follicles rather than on the longer hair.
Please arrive without creams, perfumes, lotions or deodorants on the treatment area.
We ask that you avoid sun exposure for 10 days prior to laser hair removal treatment, and also to ensure all fake tan is removed before your arrival. This is to ensure that I can treat you safely.
No - you can get on with your day to day life immediately after laser hair removal.
We do advise that you avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and showers, and excessive exercise for 48 hours after treatment.
In those 48 hours we also advise against the use of perfumed creams, soaps and lotions. Use aloe vera gel instead.
Yes! We can definitely still carry out laser hair removal.
However, we cannot laser over the tattoo as this would put you at risk of burns and would spoil your tattoo.
We work around tattoos, covering them with white stickers or pencil to deflect heat from the laser.
Yes. I have completed my Level 4 VTCT in Laser & Intense Pulsed Light, as well as comprehensive training with the manufacturer of my laser in its safe and effective use.
